Coco Drinking Game + Cocktail
Drink to the dead — they can only stay if you remember them.
The Rules
- Sip — A marigold petal path is shown lighting the way between the living world and the Land of the Dead
- Sip — Miguel plays guitar and sings — even when someone has explicitly told him not to
- Sip — Hector's face or body begins flickering because he is being forgotten in the living world
- Sip — Ernesto de la Cruz appears on a massive memorial portrait, poster, or giant screen
- Sip — Dante the hairless Xoloitzcuintli pulls a move useless that makes things worse
- Drink Twice — Miguel steals the guitar from Ernesto's mausoleum and plays the opening chord
- Drink Twice — Hector reveals he wrote all of Ernesto's famous songs — they were stolen
- Drink Twice — Ernesto de la Cruz throws Miguel off the tower into the cenote below
- Shot — Miguel sings "Remember Me" in the soft lullaby version to Great-great-Grandma Coco
- Shot — Coco recognizes her Papa — Hector — and begins to remember his face fully
- Chug — Hector's photo is placed on the Rivera ofrenda and he is remembered forever — he solidifies
Themed Cocktail
Hector's Marigold Mezcalita
Ingredients:
- 2 oz mezcal
- 0.75 oz fresh lime juice
- 0.5 oz marigold-infused honey syrup
- 0.25 oz hibiscus liqueur
- 1.5 oz fresh orange juice
- 1 tsp tajin for rim
Instructions:
- 1Rim a rocks glass with tajin by running a lime wedge around the edge and pressing into the spice.
- 2Combine mezcal, lime juice, marigold-honey syrup, hibiscus liqueur, and orange juice in a shaker with ice.
- 3Shake hard for 15 seconds until very cold.
- 4Fill the rimmed glass with fresh ice and double strain the cocktail over it.
- 5Garnish with a small fresh or dried marigold bloom on the surface and a lime wheel on the rim.
