The Rules
- Sip — Red speaks in her raspy, gasping voice to explain the Tethered's history
- Sip — the Tethered appear with golden scissors in a visual on screen
- Sip — Lupita Nyong'o's Adelaide twitches, flinches, or moves unnaturally
- Sip — Jeremiah 11:11 appears as text or is spoken aloud by any character
- Sip — the Wilson family attempts to flee the vacation house in the car
- Drink Twice — Red recounts the underground tunnel life in her hollow, stilted speech
- Drink Twice — Pluto mirrors Jason's moves around the fire in a disturbing callback
- Drink Twice — the Tethered hold hands to form a human chain across a highway
- Shot — Red forces Adelaide to watch as Umbrae and Pluto attack the family
- Shot — Adelaide kills Red and realizes she herself is the Tethered who escaped
- Chug — the final shot reveals the full line of Tethered holding hands across the hillside
Themed Cocktail
Red's Golden Scissors
Ingredients:
- 1.5 oz mezcal
- 0.75 oz Aperol
- 0.75 oz blood orange juice
- 0.5 oz fresh lime juice
- 0.5 oz agave syrup
- 1 oz ginger beer
Instructions:
- 1Combine mezcal, Aperol, blood orange juice, lime juice, and agave syrup in a shaker with ice.
- 2Shake for 12 seconds and strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube.
- 3Top with ginger beer and stir once gently.
- 4Garnish with a blood orange half-wheel and a pair of tiny cocktail scissors pick if available.
